Ella Fitzgerald's voice was satin Louis Armstrong's sandpaper, but when you put m together on single song, ir chemistry was unimpeachable. This disc selects highlights from three albums y made together at Verve (including ir Porgy Bess), adds spiffy live track from Hollywood Bowl. Though y don't harmonize much (Armstrong's voice wasn't built harmony), Ella's dignified swing flashes teasing wit play off Satchmo's gritty, good-humored roar symbiotically. The material mostly lightweight Tin Pan Alley stuff (lots Gershwin, plus likes "I've Got My Love Keep Me Warm"), and y fly it like kite.
