Everything about Tool's fourth album      an experience, starting with        packaging, which consists       liner credits printed on      translucent plastic sleeve over        CD and      booklet that layers anatomical representations atop one another--the first page pictures musculature         blood vessels;        next, bones;        third, internal organs;         so on. It's worth describing        packaging       Lateralus because it says much about        astonishing music within. Maynard James Keenan         company understand        expectations riding       this much-anticipated release and        y've delivered        goods! While it remains in        Tool tradition       trance-inducing progressive metal, Lateralus      tighter, clearer, crisper,         all around      notch above        ir admirable previous releases. Aenima was marred by muddy production and      certain predictability. Undertow had      cleaner sound but wasn't       confident or adventurous. With Lateralus, Tool have raised an already lofty bar still higher by coming up with      collection that kicks major ass.
